Refreshing Thai Iced Tea Recipe

4.9 from 102 reviews

Thai Iced Tea is a refreshing and creamy beverage made by brewing strong Thai tea, sweetening it with sugar, and then combining it with milk and ice. It’s a popular drink that balances bold tea flavors with rich sweetness, perfect for cooling down on a warm day.

Ingredients

Scale

Tea

  • 4 tablespoons Thai tea leaves
  • 4 cups water

Sweetener

  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar

Dairy

  • 1/2 cup evaporated milk or sweetened condensed milk
  • Ice cubes, as needed

Instructions

  1. Brew the Tea: Boil 4 cups of water and pour it over 4 tablespoons of Thai tea leaves. Let the tea steep for about 5 minutes until it’s strong and richly colored.
  2. Strain the Tea: Strain the tea leaves out using a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth to prevent any leaf residue in the drink.
  3. Sweeten the Tea: While the tea is still hot, stir in 1/2 cup of granulated sugar until fully dissolved to achieve a balanced sweetness.
  4. Cool the Tea: Allow the sweetened tea to cool to room temperature, then chill it in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.
  5. Assemble the Drink: Fill a glass with ice cubes, pour the chilled sweetened tea over the ice, and top with 1/2 cup evaporated milk or sweetened condensed milk. Stir gently before serving.

Notes

  • You can adjust the sugar to taste depending on your sweetness preference.
  • Sweetened condensed milk can be used alone for a richer and creamier texture, or mixed with evaporated milk for a lighter option.
  • For a dairy-free version, substitute evaporated milk with coconut milk.
  • Use Thai tea mix which often contains spices like star anise and orange blossom for authentic flavor.
  • Serve immediately after assembling for the best taste and texture.
