This dish offers all the delicious flavors of the classic Philly cheesesteak sandwich in an easy-to-make casserole form, perfect for family dinners or casual gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale

Meat and Vegetables

  • 1 lb ground beef or thinly sliced ribeye steak
  • 1 green bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced

Cheese

  • 2 cups shredded provolone cheese
  • Optional: ½ cup shredded mozzarella cheese

Additional Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil or butter for sautéing
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the filling: Heat olive oil or butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and bell peppers and sauté for about 5-7 minutes until soft and caramelized. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
  2. Cook the beef: In the same skillet, add the ground beef or ribeye steak slices. Cook over medium-high heat until browned and cooked through, breaking up the ground beef as it cooks. Season with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and Worcestershire sauce if using.
  3. Combine ingredients: Return the sautéed peppers and onions to the skillet with the cooked beef and stir together to mix flavors evenly. Remove from heat.
  4. Assemble the casserole: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Transfer the beef and vegetable mixture into a greased casserole dish, spreading it evenly. Sprinkle the shredded provolone cheese (and mozzarella if using) evenly over the top.
  5. Bake the casserole: Place the casserole in the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the cheese is fully melted, bubbly, and starting to turn golden brown.
  6. Serve: Remove from oven and let cool slightly before serving. Enjoy the warm, cheesy Philly cheesesteak flavors in casserole form.

Notes

  • You can substitute ribeye steak slices with ground beef or even thinly sliced sirloin for a different texture.
  • For extra flavor, add sliced mushrooms or a dash of hot sauce to the filling.
  • Provolone cheese is traditional, but you can mix in mozzarella for stretchier cheese or cheddar for a sharper taste.
  • This casserole can be prepared ahead of time and refrigerated for up to 24 hours before baking.
  • Serve with a side of crusty bread or a simple green salad for a complete meal.
