Gingerbread Syrup Ingredients

  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon freshly grated ginger
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 4 whole cloves

Instructions

  1. Combine Ingredients: In a medium saucepan, add brown sugar, water, freshly grated ginger, cinnamon stick, and whole cloves. Stir all the ingredients together to begin dissolving the sugar.
  2. Simmer the Mixture: Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer. Maintain a low simmer for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the syrup thickens and develops a rich, syrupy consistency.
  3. Strain the Syrup: Remove the saucepan from heat. Pour the mixture through a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth into a heatproof container to remove the ginger pieces, cinnamon stick, and cloves, leaving a smooth syrup.
  4. Cool and Store: Allow the gingerbread syrup to cool to room temperature. Transfer it to a clean jar or bottle and refrigerate. The syrup can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.

Notes

  • Freshly grated ginger provides the best flavor; avoid powdered ginger for this syrup.
  • Adjust sweetness by varying the amount of brown sugar to your preference.
  • Use the syrup to sweeten coffee, tea, or cocktails for a seasonal twist.
  • If desired, increase simmering time for a thicker syrup, but avoid boiling vigorously to prevent burning.
  • Shake or stir syrup before use, as spices can settle.
