Dry Ingredients
- 1 cup oats (rolled oats)
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
Wet Ingredients
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cut into small pieces
- 3/4 cup milk (whole or 2%)
- Prepare the Dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine the oats and flour. Add the cold, cubed butter and cut it into the dry ingredients using a pastry blender or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Pour in the milk gradually and stir until a soft dough forms.
- Cut the Biscuits: Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and gently knead it a few times until it comes together. Roll the dough to about 1/2 inch thickness. Using a biscuit cutter or a glass, cut out rounds of dough and place them onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Bake Biscuits: Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). Bake the biscuits for 12-15 minutes or until they have risen and are golden brown on top. Remove from oven and let cool slightly before serving.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, use buttermilk instead of regular milk.
- Do not overwork the dough to keep the biscuits tender and flaky.
- You can add a pinch of salt or a teaspoon of sugar to the dry ingredients for extra flavor.
- Oatmeal can be replaced with quick oats for a slightly different texture but rolled oats give the best bite.
