This Cuban Casserole combines savory pulled pork, smoky ham, and melted Swiss cheese in a creamy mustard sauce, baked to bubbly perfection. It’s a comforting and flavorful dish perfect for a quick family dinner or a casual gathering.

Ingredients

Scale

Meat

  • 4 cups prepared pulled pork (not with sauce or carnitas)
  • 8 ounces sliced ham (cut into small pieces)

Dairy & Sauces

  • 2 cups shredded Swiss cheese (shredded yourself for better melting)
  • 1 cup whipping cream
  • 4 ounces cream cheese (softened)
  • ¼ cup yellow mustard

Additional Ingredients

  • 1 cup sliced dill pickles
  • Additional pickles for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to prepare for baking the casserole.
  2. Prepare Sauce: In a large oven-safe skillet over medium heat, combine the whipping cream, softened cream cheese, and yellow mustard. Stir continuously until the cream cheese melts and a smooth sauce forms.
  3. Add Meats and Pickles: Stir in the pulled pork, diced ham, half of the sliced dill pickles, and half of the shredded Swiss cheese into the sauce, mixing well to combine all ingredients evenly.
  4. Combine Ingredients: Ensure the mixture is well incorporated and heated through on the stove.
  5. Top with Cheese and Pickles: Sprinkle the remaining Swiss cheese and remaining sliced pickles evenly on top of the mixture in the skillet for a flavorful topping.
  6. Bake: Place the skillet in the oven and bake at 400°F (205°C) for 20 minutes or until the casserole is bubbly and the cheese is fully melted and slightly golden.
  7. Garnish and Serve: Remove the casserole from the oven and garnish with additional pickles if desired before serving.

Notes

  • Shredding your own Swiss cheese helps it melt better and improves the texture.
  • Use a large oven-safe skillet like a 12-inch cast iron pan to avoid transferring before baking.
  • Adjust the amount of pickles according to your taste preference for tanginess.
  • Ensure pulled pork does not have sauce or carnitas seasoning to maintain balanced flavors.
  • Serving warm is best, and leftovers can be refrigerated and reheated.
