Artichoke Hearts
- 1 can (14 oz) artichoke hearts, drained and patted dry
Coating
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 3/4 cup breadcrumbs (preferably panko for extra crunch)
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 large egg, beaten
- Prepare the artichokes: Drain the artichoke hearts well and pat them dry using paper towels to remove excess moisture, ensuring a crispy coating later.
- Make the coating mixture: In a shallow bowl, combine the grated Parmesan cheese, breadcrumbs, and garlic powder, mixing well to evenly distribute the flavors.
- Dip the artichokes in egg: Beat the egg in another shallow bowl. Dip each artichoke heart into the beaten egg to coat it completely, allowing excess egg to drip off.
- Coat with Parmesan mixture: Roll each egg-coated artichoke heart in the Parmesan and breadcrumb mixture, pressing lightly to ensure the coating sticks well.
- Cook the artichokes: You can either bake or air fry the coated artichokes. For baking, preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C), place the artichokes on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or lightly greased, and bake for 15-20 minutes until golden and crispy. For air frying, preheat the air fryer to 400°F (200°C) and cook the artichokes in a single layer for 10-12 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through, until crisp and golden.
- Serve warm: Remove the artichokes from the oven or air fryer and serve immediately while they’re warm and crispy.
Notes
- Using panko breadcrumbs will provide a crunchier texture compared to regular breadcrumbs.
- Make sure to dry the artichokes well to prevent sogginess.
- These can be served with a dipping sauce such as marinara or garlic aioli for added flavor.
- For a vegetarian option, this recipe is suitable as is; however, if making vegan adjustments, substitute the egg with flax or chia egg and use a vegan Parmesan alternative.
