This Asiago Chicken and Gnocchi recipe combines tender chicken breasts with pillowy gnocchi simmered in a rich and creamy Asiago cheese sauce infused with garlic. A comforting and luxurious one-pan dish perfect for a hearty dinner.

Ingredients

Scale

Chicken

  • 2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (about 1 lb)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste

Sauce and Gnocchi

  • 1 package (16 oz) potato gnocchi
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup grated Asiago cheese
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Chicken: Season the chicken breasts generously with salt and pepper. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add chicken and cook for 5-6 minutes per side, or until fully cooked and golden brown on the outside. Remove chicken from skillet and set aside to rest.
  2. Sauté Garlic and Make Sauce: In the same skillet, reduce heat to medium and add butter. Once melted, add minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant. Pour in heavy cream and bring to a gentle simmer, stirring frequently.
  3. Cook Gnocchi in Sauce: Add the potato gnocchi directly into the creamy garlic sauce. Simmer gnocchi for 2-3 minutes until they float to the top and are tender. Stir in grated Asiago cheese until melted and the sauce is rich and creamy. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  4. Combine Chicken and Gnocchi: Slice the cooked chicken into bite-sized pieces and gently fold into the gnocchi and Asiago sauce mixture. Heat through for an additional minute to allow flavors to meld.
  5. Serve: Remove from heat and serve immediately, garnished with extra Asiago cheese or fresh herbs if desired.

Notes

  • Use fresh Asiago cheese for the best flavor and melting quality.
  • Gnocchi can be store-bought or homemade.
  • For a lighter version, substitute half-and-half or milk for the heavy cream but expect a less creamy texture.
  • Adding fresh spinach or sautéed mushrooms enhances the dish’s nutrition and flavor.
  • Be careful not to overcook the gnocchi to avoid mushy texture.
