Ingredients

Scale

Pretzel Dough

  • 1 1/2 cups warm water (110°F)
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 10 cups water
  • 2/3 cup baking soda
  • Coarse salt, for sprinkling

Filling

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Pretzel Dough: In a large bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar. Stir and let it sit for 5 minutes until foamy. Add flour, salt, and melted butter; mix until dough forms. Knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Cover and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour until doubled in size.
  2. Cook the Ground Beef: In a skillet over medium heat, cook ground beef with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper until browned and fully cooked. Drain excess grease and let cool slightly.
  3. Preheat Baking Setup: Preheat oven to 450°F (230°C). Bring 10 cups of water and baking soda to a boil in a large pot for the pretzel bath.
  4. Shape the Pretzel Bombs: Divide the dough into 12 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball and flatten slightly. Place about 1 tablespoon of cooked beef and a small amount of cheddar cheese in the center. Fold the dough around the filling and pinch seams to seal tightly, rolling again into a ball shape.
  5. Bake the Pretzel Bombs: Using a slotted spoon, dip each stuffed dough ball into the boiling baking soda water for 30 seconds, then place on a greased or parchment-lined baking sheet. Sprinkle with coarse salt. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown on top.
  6. Serve: Remove from oven and allow to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy these warm and gooey cheeseburger pretzel bombs with your favorite dipping sauces.

Notes

  • You can substitute cheddar with pepper jack or mozzarella for a different flavor profile.
  • If you prefer a spicier filling, add a pinch of cayenne pepper or chopped jalapeños to the ground beef mixture.
  • Make sure to seal the dough well to prevent the filling from leaking during baking.
  • Serve with mustard, ketchup, or a cheesy dipping sauce for extra indulgence.
